Today I had my first meeting with the iPhone. We sat down and had a little chat. I was interested in what makes him so special, what features he has, and which applications he comes with. Well, Ladies and Germs, I was very impressed with Mr. iPhone.
First of all, I was surprised at how compact it was. Yes, I’ve seen the commercials where the iPhone fits into the palm of someone’s hand, but I was still surprised at how light it was. At just under 5 ounces, the iPhone proves that big things come in small packages. The 3.5 inch screen is just the right size for viewing videos, the internet, and applications.
Ah yes, the applications. There are several handy, useful, and fun apps available on the iPhone right out of the box. Of course everyone knows that iPhone is a cell phone, but its also an iPod and a web browser. Its an organizer, a calendar, and a notepad. An interactive map, a camera, and an album…all out of the box!
Gosh, Liz, gush much?
Well, maybe a little, but iPhone is just all kinds of nifty. Take, for example, iPhone’s camera. The lens is barely noticeable on iPhone’sĀ backside, but the pictures it takes are incredible. Full screen, bright colors, and no flash was needed when I took a picture in a shadowy office.
You’ve probably seen the commercials where someone plays YouTube videos on their iPhone. Looks pretty neat, huh? Well…it is. YouTube has its very own button the main screen so there’s easy access to your favorite videos. There are already 10,000 YouTube videos on the iPhone network with plans to have all of YouTube’s videos iPhone encoded by the fall.
Overall I was very impressed by the iPhone apps immediately available to customers. The iPhone is not just a blank slate when you open the box, it comes ready to go with movies, internet, and other features. Of course these are just some of the apps available for the iPhone. Third party developers working with Apple have developed lots of applications. There are more coming all the time!
